FincoEnergies supplies TESO sustainable biofuel to accelerate sustainability in the Wadden Sea area

TESO (Koninklijke N.V. Texels Eigen Stoomboot Onderneming) is giving a significant boost to its sustainability goals by transitioning to sustainable biofuel. The successful first delivery to the ferry ms. 'Dokter Wagemaker' marks a new chapter in the longstanding successful partnership between FincoEnergies and the Texel ferry service.

Preservation of the Wadden Sea

TESO sails through the Wadden Sea area daily. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a beautiful natural area, but also fragile. With its sustainable business, TESO contributes to the preservation of natural richness. Significant progress has been made, but the Texel ferry service continuously seeks innovative ways to further decarbonise its operations. Marc Bakker, Head of Technical Services: "Every year, we aim to take another step forward in reducing our ecological footprint. It's embedded in our company policy. Working with FincoEnergies, we explored possibilities to make our diesel fuel more sustainable. Adding sustainable biofuels, in this case HVO, is a significant step toward reducing CO2 emissions."

GoodFuels truly sustainable biofuel

The next generation of sustainable biofuel offered by FincoEnergies’ GoodFuels brand, is derived from feedstocks that are certified as 100% waste and residues; such as animal and vegetable waste fats or used cooking oil. Thanks to the drop-in properties of this biofuel, they can be dropped directly without having to make changes to the fuel infrastructure or the engine of the ferry. Marc Bakker: "The costs of this biofuel are higher than diesel, but TESO, an organisation responsible for the ferry connection since 1907, looks at it with a long-term vision. Doing so, our core values are central. TESO is not profit-oriented but aims to provide passengers with a safe, reliable, and sustainable crossing. The decision to switch to biofuel aligns with those values."

Combining efforts for environmental improvement

Jeroen van Essen, General Manager of FincoEnergies Marine, is enthusiastic about the partnership and the sustainable step TESO has taken: "The Wadden Sea is a stunning natural environment, but also vulnerable. That's why transitioning from traditional fuels to GoodFuels biofuel is essential. Our organisation is dedicated to propelling our customers’ transition towards a better world. We create insight into their current situation, provide advice, facilitate, and optimise. And if something wonderful results from it, like the sustainable move TESO has made, I am very proud of that. I'm thrilled with this partnership and look forward to the next sustainable step."

Start decarbonising today

GoodFuels sustainable biofuels are a fast and effective solution for decarbonising the maritime sector. They require (almost) no technical changes to the fuel infrastructure or the engine and enable a CO2 reduction of up to 90% in their pure form. This means shipowners can already start reducing their CO2 emissions today without having to invest heavily. Would you like to take the first or next green step? Please contact us.
